Using Landyachtz Longboards For Optimum Results

By Azalee Bouillon

Back in the 1950's, along the beaches of California, skateboarding was born as a way for surfers to keep entertained when the waves were uncooperative. They simply took planks, added the wheels from roller skates, and took to riding the landscape. So many different style emerged from the original and Landyachtz longboards are available for each one of them.

The company began producing in 1997 and have grown to be one of the most respected and diversified manufacturers in the field. Longboards share many of their basic parts with the more common skateboard, but the difference is made evident by the modifications made to each component in order to optimize the ride. Changing the board's weight, size and shape will directly affect the way it handles movement, vibration and speed.

Depending on one's chosen style of boarding, the difference is in the details. A shorter cut is great for those who like to use their board to get from one destination to another because it is easier to carry and is great for quick, sharp turns. If the preference is for a more laid back ride without the need for sharp navigation, then choosing a longer one is the way to go.

Not all skateboarders are the same and each style will work best with a specific modifications being made to the board. The cut and length of the deck will affect the way the rider will be able to balance, turn and spin. The truck, as well as the diameter and hardness of the wheels have a direct effect on how stable and smooth the ride will be.

Using a longboard as a main means of transportation is becoming ever more popular with those who enjoy exercising while taking an active interest in saving the environment. Being among the shortest boards at between 40-50", they usually feature decks with a lot of flexibility and looser trucks which are better for turning and control. The nose is cut narrow and a kick-tail is added to aid in quick changes in direction and tight corners.

Bombing, or downhill, is generally known as the most difficult, but equally exciting form of riding as speeds upwards of 50 MPH are often achieved. These boards feature short decks of rigid construction with wide set trucks and mid-lengths of around 60-80 inches. Elements of this style make it a bit more dangerous so it is usually attempted only by those with extensive skateboarding experience.

Cruising and carving are styles that are a direct reflection on how the sport got it's start. The boards are the longest available, reaching as long as 110", and the cut is very similar to the surfboards that they were originally modeled after. With the trucks set at mid tightness, they are perfect for a casual ride over gently rolling landscapes that offer the occasional swell and open stretches.

Distance, dancing and slalom are just three of the many more skateboarding styles, each featuring their own component adjustments designed to enhance the experience of the ride. Enthusiastic riders are always trying to up the ante and constantly developing new ways to test the board. Whatever new challenges are prevented, Landyachtz longboards are fully customizable and ready to rise to the occasion.
