Stop Looking your Age with Botox

By Craig Nevilt

To smooth away the frown lines between the eyebrows that both men and women get in middle age, and for other facial wrinkles, Botox can be used under prescription. Most often it is used to smooth out lines. This type of cosmetic improvement is used mostly by people who feel the lines on their forehead make them look tired or even angry.

If you have an allergy to any of the ingredients of Botox, you should not consider this treatment. If there is an infection in the skin surrounding the area being injected, common sense dictates that you shouldn't go ahead. If you have any issues that affect your breathing such as asthma, you also should inform your physician before a treatment.

How does it work?

The skin's wrinkles normally form right next to a muscle that is close to it, and normally beneath it.The Botox restricts nerve impulses from reaching the tissue that causes the wrinkle. So, limited or no muscle movement means that the skin supported by the muscle stops being creased by constant expression contractions. Lines and wrinkles stop forming when muscle contractions are inhibited. As a result, with fewer wrinkles and frown lines the person has a more youthful look.

Botox injections is a non-invasive procedure that is often used for wrinkles, and it takes less than 30 minutes. The site to be treated receives an injection of a small amount of Botox. As the Botox starts working, it blocks the nerve signals to the muscles under the skin. The muscle therefore relaxes and the skin is smoothed, causing facial lines to diminish.

The skin might be a bit red and sore after the Botox Injection Treatment, but this is normally minor and goes away after a few days. A patient can usually return to work the same day, right after leaving the clinic. The treatment usually starts to work within 3 days, but it may take up to a week to maximize the full effect.

Post-Treatment

The first thing you need to do following your procedure is to try to exercise your treated muscles for one to two hours. You should practice raising your eyebrows, squinting, and frowning. This will work the Botox into your muscles. This can be helpful, but if you forget or don't have the time, it won't impact your results negatively.

Do not do yoga, heavy lifting or any type of strenuous exercise for four hours after the treatment, and take care to not rub or massage those areas that have been treated. Also, don't take Advil, vitamin D, or Tylenol after the procedure.

If, after the procedure, you see some tiny bumps or marks on your face, do not be concerned. They will go away within a few hours.

Make sure whoever is doing your Botox treatment is trained specifically in this procedure. These treatments are medical procedures and need to be viewed as such.
