The Pros And Cons Of Over The Counter Orthotics

By Brenda Warner

There are many people who are looking for ways to find relief for their foot problems. To do this, they usually look to over the counter orthotics as a way to cope with issues like heel spurs and overpronation. However, not all of these products work in the way they should especially if a person does not know what to get. Here are the pros and cons of using these types of products.

The prices are affordable for most people. Many individuals go to their neighborhood stores in order to get foot care products that have been made for mass distribution. Most times they cost anywhere from $30-$40 which is different from $300-$400 or more. This is why more and more people purchase these products because they are easy on the budget.

They are easily accessible by the public. These types of foot care products are easy to access in that one does not have to go through a specialist to get what is needed. This is one of the reasons why these items are so popular in advertising and the media. There are also machines available in select stores that allow a person to see which insole is best for their feet.

There are many different products available. Most people can find many different products for needs that vary from problems with arches to calluses. There are also inserts for different types of shoes that a person might wear. This makes it very convenient for the public to get the help they need. However one should also be aware of the disadvantages of these types of ready-made products.

Products that are readily available might not work that well. Since products found in a drugstore or pharmacy are for the general public, it does not mean that one will find what they are looking for. Many times an individual might find the right product through trial and error or by working with a foot doctor who is familiar with their issue.

This is one of the reasons why they do not last as long as the custom-made products. If the store bought items are cheaper, they might only last for a few months as oppose to a few years. This means that in the long run a person will spend more money to replace an item that supposedly costs less than something made of higher quality materials.

If someone has an unusual foot problem, there may not be a solution that is readily available. In order to find one, the individual has to go to someone who has experience in dealing with unusual cases. However, this does not guarantee that a solution will be found. They will have to create something that has never been made before.

Even though one might get great results from using products that are readily available, it is still best to have a specialist determine the best course to take. It all depends on how much money one is able to spend and the severity of their problem. In any case, it is always good to get as much information as possible before making a decision.
